Description
Spring Huoshan Yellow Tea - Emperor Gold
Huoshan Yellow Bud is a kind of yellow tea from Anhui Province, China. It is an imperial tribute tea that dates back to the Ming Dynasty. The appearance of dried tea leaves is shiny, which is very similar to Huangshan Maofeng tea. When soaked, the leaves show a very spicy and refreshing taste, accompanied by an unusual green-yellow leaves. This is a kind of organically grown handmade yellow tea from Anhui Province, which is above 1000 meters above sea level.
What makes yellow different from a green tea?
It is due to the fermentation process in yellow tea. While hot and damp, the tea is removed from the wok and is wrapped in paper or cloth to provoke a step called ‘Men Huang’ (闷黄) or ‘Sealing Yellow’. During this stage, the tea undergoes non-enzymatic oxidation, which reduces the vibrant grassy character of the tea and develops instead a gentler, sweeter, more mellow smell and flavour. The length of time that the tea is wrapped varies according to the producer and the type of yellow tea being made.
Its long, well-proportioned dark green leaves have been carefully designed to bring out its deep and silky floral fragrance. Astringency in yellow tea is rare, because additional steam or oxidation will increase its sweetness. It is always a refreshing natural sweet tea, providing a clear and transparent tea soup.
Today's Huoshan Huangya is not as yellow as the one made in the Qing Dynasty. The covering process helps to reduce the grassy taste of some green tea while maintaining the freshness and sweet taste of high-quality green tea.
Huoshan yellow bud tea in the first steep is refreshing with floral & nutty fragrant. In the second steep, it gives the strongest nutty aroma accompanied by the lovely honey sweetiness. The palate is as if having a tea mask coated. A very elegant and soothign tea to drink all day without getting tired of.
