2008 High Mountain Wild Aged White Tea (Shou Mei) Cake

The raw leaves for this white tea cake were picked in one of the core areas of white tea production in Tai Mu Mount. Fuding in 2008. This tea is reaching its mature stage.

Upon drinking, the liquid is sweet and smooth, and carries a clear raisin, light floral and jujube aroma. Texture is thick and the aftertaste is delightfully sweet & brisk.  To our surprise, comparing with our 2008 Fuding Wild Tree Aged White Tea (Shou Mei) Cake, it is lighter in raisin taste but more heavy in floral note. After checking, we found that this cake is much more tighted pressed which limit the air reaching the inner part of the cake. Thus a slower oxidation is resulted. This explains even they are of the same age and storing anvirnoment, the taste can be so different. If this tea is stored and left to age for longer periods of time, it will soon develop a mellower, richer taste.  It would be interesting to find out its taste in a couples of years time after we have broken open this gem.
